# Will it fit? Check your wall in thirty seconds

Enter ceiling height, wall width and floor space and see which murphy bed sizes fit, vertical or horizontal, before anyone measures. Golf bays too.

This is the first thing we check on every design visit, so check it first yourself. Three measurements, one tap, and you know whether a queen fits your wall or whether a horizontal bed is the answer.

## Before you measure

- Use a tape, not a guess. Ceilings are the number people get wrong most.
- Measure at the wall, at both ends of where the cabinet would sit and in the middle. Use the smallest.
- Note anything in the wall: outlets, switches, vents, a thermostat. Outlets and switches can be moved; vents and plumbing decide where a bed cannot go.
- Check the swing: doors, closet doors and ceiling fans in the path of the bed coming down.

## What the checker knows

It uses the same cabinet footprints as the [sizes page](/sizes/): vertical and horizontal cabinets for twin, full, queen and king, plus the extra depth a desk or a sofa adds and the extra width side cabinets add. It leaves two inches of ceiling for standing the cabinet up during install. For the golf simulator it uses the swing-height numbers on the [fold-away golf simulator page](/fold-away-golf-simulator/).

If it says no, it tells you which number is short and by how much, and what usually rescues the wall. If it says yes but tight, we confirm on the visit before anything is built.

## After it says yes

Run the [cost estimator](/estimate/) for a market range, then send the three numbers and a phone photo of the wall in the form below. We reply the same business day.

## Questions people ask

**What do I measure?**

Three things at the wall where the cabinet would go: floor to ceiling, the clear width between anything that cannot move, and the clear floor in front. Measure the ceiling in two or three spots and use the smallest number.

**Why measure at the wall and not the room?**

Basements lose inches at the walls to ducts, soffits and beams. A room that is 8 feet in the middle is often 7 feet 6 inches where the bed goes.

**Is this a quote?**

No. It is the fit check we do first on every design visit, with the same numbers. The price comes after a person measures and you pick finishes. The estimate tool gives a market range.
