Salt Lake City is bungalows in Sugar House with 8 foot ceilings, hundred-year-old homes in the Avenues with a basement apartment, towers downtown where the living room is the guest room, and new builds in Daybreak and Herriman with 9 foot basements. Each one wants a different bed. We measure before we recommend.

## What tends to work where

**Sugar House, Millcreek, Liberty Wells bungalows.** Small bedrooms, 8 foot ceilings, real wood trim. A vertical queen in a shaker door stained to match the trim, or a horizontal queen under a window if the ceiling drops. Plaster walls are fine once the studs are found.

**The Avenues and Capitol Hill.** Basement apartments and mother-in-law suites with low ceilings and brick or stone foundations. Horizontal beds and masonry anchors. See [basement apartments and ADUs](/basement-adu/).

**My Sugar House bungalow has 8 foot ceilings and plaster walls. Will it work?**

Usually. A vertical queen fits under a true 8 foot ceiling and plaster over lath anchors fine once we find the studs. Older homes sometimes have a picture rail or a radiator in the way, which is why we look first.

**Can you install in a downtown condo?**

Yes. We work with building management on elevator and loading times, protect the hallways, and anchor into the demising wall or a concrete wall with the building's rules in mind.
